Crystal Palace 1-0 Leicester

Luka Milivojevic scored a sublime curling effort in the first-half to ensure Crystal Palace beat Leicester City 1-0.

The Serbian's first-half goal secured Palace of a crucial three points as they enter a very difficult run of games over the Christmas period.

Palace have moved up to 15th in the league table with the three points, whilst Leicester have moved down into the bottom-half of the table.

How It Happened

It looked as if the Foxes took a lead half an hour in. Vicente Guaita, who was making his Premier League debut in goal for the Eagles almost had a total nightmare on his first start.

His wayward touch allowed Jamie Vardy to run in and find the net after dispossessing the Palace 'keeper, but the referee thought there was a foul on Guaita.

Palace grew into the game more and more as the first-half progressed, and they took the lead with 38 minutes gone.

A moment of pure class from Milivojevic from 25-yards out curled past Kasper Schmeichel and broke the deadlock.

It was a scrappy first-half that was brought to life by one moment of magic from the Crystal Palace captain.

James Maddison was brought off by Claude Puel at half-time, with winger Rachid Ghezzal replacing the young English midfielder.

The next big chance of the match went to Leicester, when Vardy found Demarai Gray, who stood up a ball to the back post and Ghezzal couldn't guide his volley on target.

Ghezzal had another half-chance for the trailing Foxes, but his shot was blocked from close-range.

Guaita introduced himself to the Selhurst Park faithful in proper fashion with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Vardy's slight touch produced a fine save from Guaita and he tipped it onto the post and rather fortunately the ball fell into the hands of the 'keeper.

Leicester were pushing hard for the equaliser, but unfortunately for Puel's team, they couldn't break a stern Palace defence down.

The Managers

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson singled out defender Martin Kelly saying he "deserves an enormous pat on the back".

"In the first-half, I thought we were very good," the Palace boss said. "We lost Cheikhou Kouyate in the second-half and when he had come off it handed the ascendancy to Leicester.

"We then had to make certain we worked hard and ground out the victory. We did not concede that many chances - the one we did that I thought they would score we had a stroke of fortune.

"Martin Kelly deserves a special mention," Hodgson added. "To come in with not many games behind him and play like he did, he deserves an enormous pat on the back."

Leicester City manager Claude Puel described his team's first-half as "poor" and that's where they let themselves down.

"We did not start the game with the right intensity," Puel said. "We played a poor first-half, it was not enough.

"We came back in the second-half with a good intensity and quality. We had three or four chances to come back into the game. We deserved to come back but it is a big disappointment because we need the points.

"We were unlucky at the end but we lost three points. It is important to correct this and to play a consistent game from the start until the end."
