West Ham interested in Shelvey

West Ham United are interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in this window, according to Mail Online.

Shelvey has scored six goals in 96 appearances for Newcastle United (image via Sky Sports).

Manager Manuel Pellegrini is determined to strengthen his squad in January, and the midfield is reportedly the key area he wants to improve.

Shelvey has only made 12 appearances this season for Rafael Benitez's side and he is high on Pellegrini's list of targets.

Pellegrini is thought to have been a long-term admirer of the 26-year-old and with Shelvey not having too many chances so far this term, the Chilean is keen to bring him into the London Stadium.

However, finances could be a problem for the Hammers. They may need to offload some players to get those finances.

Marko Arnautovic has been linked with a move to China in the past couple of days; with a bid coming in from an unnamed club in China.

Newcastle are thought to be determined to keep Shelvey, though, so it may have to be a big money bid to try and persuade the Magpies.
