The Reds top the table (written on Wednesday 12th December) and have now won five successive league matches.

United got back to winning ways as they comfortably beat Fulham at Old Trafford last Saturday afternoon.

The sides last met in March when United edged Liverpool at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford scoring a brace and an Eric Bailly own-goal giving Liverpool hope in Manchester.

Team News

Liverpool defender Joel Matip is set to miss six weeks of action after sustaining a fractured collarbone in Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Napoli.

Trent Alexander-Arnold also suffered an injury in the Champions League game and is a major doubt - with Nathaniel Clyne set to make his first Premier League appearance since last May.

Manchester United are facing a bit of an injury crisis, with Marcos Rojo the latest to join a huge list.

Chris Smalling, Matteo Darmian, Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof are all doubts for the Red Devils.

Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay will also be assessed, with Alexis Sanchez definitely out for United.

The Managers

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has expressed his desire for his team to be "angry" on Sunday.

"We have to be very angry on Sunday and we will be," Klopp insisted. "We fight for our points. We have our own problems and targets."

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes despite all of the squad's injuries, they will arrive on Sunday looking to fight for victory.

"We know that we are going to play against the leader, against a team on a high," Mourinho said.

"But we have our qualities, we have our potential, even with the problems we have and the doubts in terms of team choice, of tactics, approach, philosophy.

"We have doubts about everything because we don't know who's available but we are going to arrive on Sunday and, with the players we have available, we are going to have a team capable of going there and fight for the victory."
