Gabriel Jesus scored a brace for Manchester City as they returned to the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win against Everton.
Jesus scored his second and third goal of the Premier League season to give City a commanding two-goal lead.
Dominic Calvert-Lewis halved the deficit for Everton - but Raheem Sterling came off the bench to score with his first touch to restore the champions' advantage.
City have now leapfrogged Liverpool back to the summit of the Premier League table, but the Reds face City's neighbours, United, on Sunday at 16:00.
How It Happened
Everton were looking very strong for the opening stages of the game and it looked as if Marco Silva's side were going to cause City some problems on the counter-attack.
Richarlison had the game's first real chance, and it was a glorious one. Lucas Digne was impressive going forward and picked out the Brazil forward at the back post, but he couldn't keep his volley down.
The Toffees were playing with five-at-the-back and they were trying to pass out from the back. They were made to regret that, though.
Yerry Mina's sloppy lofted clearance was picked up by Ilkay Gundogan, who slid Leroy Sane through - who found Jesus in the box and it was a clinical finish from the striker.
Jesus picked up his first Premier League goal in over four months of action and only his second league goal of the campaign.
The rest of the first-half didn't produce too many noteworthy chances, but Everton seemed to deteriorate as the half progressed.
City doubled their advantage soon after the restart, when an inch-perfect Sane cross was headed home by Jesus - the same provider and the same scorer as the first goal.
Everton gave themselves hope when Calvert-Lewin tapped home Digne's cross to make it a nervy Etihad crowd.
But fear not, Sterling was there to save any potential City blushes as he replaced Sane and with his first touch, headed Fernandinho's delivery past Jordan Pickford.
The Managers
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was delighted with the way his players responded from last weekend's defeat to Chelsea.
"The players responded (to defeat to Chelsea) in a marvellous way," Guardiola said after the match.
"Everton have top players. Today was a tricky - a dangerous, dangerous game. They drew at Stamford Bridge, at Liverpool it came down to the last second. I'm very pleased."
Everton manager Marco Silva reflected on the missed chances from Everton in the game and wonders what could've been.
"Until the moment they scored the game was what we expected," the Everton boss said.
"We were blocking them and they didn't create one chance before they scored the first goal. The biggest chance was our chance with Richarlison. Against this team, we have to be effective when we create moments to score.
"We made a mistake with the first goal, they scored and after that they were more comfortable."
