Manchester City took their revenge on Tottenham Hotspur with Phil Foden scoring his first Premier League goal early on; which lifted City to the top of the league.
Foden's header early on ensured City climb back to the summit of the Premier League with Liverpool in action at Cardiff City on Sunday.
For both sides, it was another clash following their intense European battle on Wednesday night - which saw Spurs come out on top, thanks to VAR.
Spurs had plenty of chances to make a rather off-colour City pay, but the champions stood firm for a vital win in Manchester.
Son Heung-Min, who has scored three goals in two matches against City in the past couple of weeks, could've made it four early on.
Son's strike was well-saved at the near-post from Ederson, though, as Spurs sent warning bells around the Etihad.
Unfortunately for the visitors, City did make one of their trademark early starts - with Foden latching on the end of a Sergio Aguero header across goal.
Christian Eriksen went close for Spurs, but Ederson did well once again. Son came close another two times as the first-half progressed, and the nerves around the Etihad were clear for all.
Kevin de Bruyne was substituted early, with the City midfielder clutching at his knee yet again to sum up a very injury-struck season for the Belgian playmaker.
The second-half begun and there were adamant shouts from Dele Alli that his former team-mate Kyle Walker had handled the ball in the box.
Referee Michael Oliver was having a busy afternoon and he said there wasn't a hand; but replays showed City may have been lucky to get away with one.
Lucas Moura was the next man for Spurs to come close, but Ederson, who came out quickly all afternoon, was equal to the Brazil forward's shot.
Raheem Sterling should've wrapped the match up for the hosts, after substitute Leroy Sane found his team-mate, but Paulo Gazzaniga saved very well.
City eventually held on for all three points and to reclaim top position yet again, albeit for 24 hours perhaps.
