Roberto Firmino scored a hat-trick as Liverpool thumped Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield to move nine points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in second.
Firmino's three, as well as Mohamed Salah's penalty and Sadio Mane's strike, ensured Liverpool came back from a goal down to assert their dominance at the summit of the Premier League.
Manchester City play on Sunday, as they travel to Southampton, before Liverpool and City lock horns on Thursday - in what is looking like a hugely important game.
How it Happened
Arsenal made a somewhat surprising start, but the perfect one from their perspective.
A peach of a cross from Alex Iwobi from the left-hand side found Ainsley Maitland-Niles; who had a tap-in and Unai Emery's men were in front.
But the lead did not last long at all - with Salah's deflected strike very fortuitously falling to Firmino who tapped in.
Firmino was on it and it was soon Liverpool who were ahead. After some terrific pressure from Mane, he won the ball back from Lucas Torreira and Firmino skipped through the Arsenal defence before smashing it past Bernd Leno.
A corner that fell all the way back to Andy Robertson, who found Salah with a diagonal ball, and the Egyptian put it on a plate for Mane, who fired home.
Just before half-time; it was game over at Anfield. Salah's trickery on the right flank forced a foul from Sokratis - who was furious.
For the second consecutive game, Salah had won a penalty at Anfield and for back-to-back games; he'd scored a penalty at Anfield. 4-1 at half-time.
It was game over, and in truth, Arsenal never put up too much of a fight in the second-half - with both teams happy to preserve their energy.
There was a chance for Firmino to complete a first Liverpool hat-trick, though, with Dejan Lovren being pushed over in the box.
Firmino confidently sent Leno the wrong way to top off a fine individual performance, as well as a team display worthy of winning any title.
The Managers
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: "It's clear it was a wide game. We were really good and did exactly what we wanted to do. We wanted to press them and cut off their build-up. They pressed us as well so it was wild. But then when you get the ball you need to calm down.
"The response was world-class. We knew in the second-half, that the game wasn't finished so we wanted to control it. Mo Salah gave the penalty to Bobby and I almost cried because we all knew how much Mo wants to score goals. It was really nice.
"Overall, 5-1 against Arsenal doesn't happen too often so I'm really happy with the boys. In 2018, I have nothing to moan about."
Arsenal manager Unai Emery: "We need to be serious but continue. The result here is difficult. It was a big test and how the difference is between Liverpool and us, I don't think it is as much as the score.
"Getting into the box against them was hard with their quality and determination. We need to do better work defensively. We are scoring a lot of goals but conceding more than we would want to.
"We are going to play Fulham next and we must recover our mentality in front of our supporters and try to win."
