Sergio Aguero scored a controversial penalty for Manchester City as they edged past West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium to keep the pressure on leaders Liverpool.
Aguero scored a 59th-minute penalty-kick to finally break down a brave Hammers defence.

The win for City ensured they stayed within one point of Liverpool, who also won on Wednesday evening.
Andy Carroll started up front for West Ham but they did not threaten until the second-half, when the ex-Liverpool striker forced a fine save from Ederson.
Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva were brought on for the champions and the latter made an immediate impact.
Silva went down under pressure in the box, much to the Hammers' disgust, but referee Stuart Atwell awarded a penalty to the hosts.
Aguero, of course, stepped up and scored with ease, sending Lucasz Fabianski the wrong way.
City threatened to score again, but the Irons stood resolute in defence and in truth, performed brilliantly in Manchester.
