Fernandinho has warned Liverpool that they will now feel the pressure from Manchester City, following the champions' win over the league leaders.
City won a thrilling game on Thursday night against Liverpool, with Fernandinho playing a starring role at the Etihad Stadium.
The champions are now only four points behind the challengers after ending their unbeaten run of 20 Premier League matches.
"Four points is going to be interesting for the rest of the season with both teams," Fernandinho told The Guardian.
"They are still leaders and they have a lot of games to play as well. It is not easy to stay there at the top because the pressure is so high. You have to win every game. So we will see what happens in the end."
Leroy Sane, the midfielder's team-mate, and the match-winner, sent a similar message out to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.
"We have put more pressure on Liverpool - we're just four points behind them, and they know it," the winger said.
"They have to keep up, but we also have to keep up. It's now a little bit more interesting.
"It was really important to win against Liverpool. It gives you more confidence to know we are closer and it's not over already.
"It was one of the biggest performances since I came here. Liverpool are, at the moment, maybe the best team in Europe, or the world, so we were happy to beat them."
