Rangers sign Defoe on 18-month deal

Jermain Defoe has completed his move to Scottish club Rangers from AFC Bournemouth on an 18-month deal at Ibrox.

Defoe will be reunited with his former England team-mate, Steven Gerrard, who is in charge of the side.

The former England striker has struggled to cement a spot in the Bournemouth first team and is in the hunt for more game time.

With Bournemouth signing Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke last week, the door was very much closed for Defoe at the Vitality, and he has now completed the move.

The 36-year-old has had spells at West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth and Sunderland in the Premier League.

Defoe should go down as one of the greats of the Premier League, with the striker being in the top 10 scorers of all-time in England's highest division.

Gerrard said: "I'm delighted to be able to welcome Jermain to Rangers. He is an exceptionally talented striker and vastly experienced footballer who has scored goals at every club he has played for.

"He will be a great addition to our dressing room and we look forward to integrating him into the squad whilst we work in Tenerife over the next week."
