Solksjaer understands Pochettino links

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has admitted he understands the reasons why Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is one of the favourites for the Manchester United job.

Solksjaer was appointed as United's caretaker manager in December following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

The Norwegian confirmed that he wants the job on a permanent basis and after the start he's had (five wins in five games), he is selling his CV reasonably well.

However, Pochettino is a name that won't go away for Solksjaer; with the Spurs boss being heavily linked with the permanent role at Old Trafford.

"He has done a very good job," Solksjaer said on the Argentine manager. "That speculation is there for a reason because he has done well."

United travel to Wembley Stadium on Sunday, as Solksjaer will lock horns with Pochettino in perhaps the Norwegian's sternest test to date.

Solksjaer has accepted his side will have to step up a class as they travel to fourth-placed Tottenham, but believes they will still be in a positive mindset following their recent winning form.

"You get tested every single game in the Premier League - no doubt about it - but of course this is against a top, top side," Solksjaer said of Sunday's opponents.

"If we want to get closer to them and go past them we need a good performance and a good result.

"You always adapt to any opposition. We play one of the best teams in the league. Of course we have got to be aware of their strengths.

"But I have been brought in a way that we need to attack teams. That is our strength, going forward, both as a team when you look at us now with the way we have played.

"We will not get as many chances to attack against (Spurs) as we have had before so we have to be ready for when we get hold of the ball, to play well with it and make sure we use the whole pitch because Wembley is a decent-sized pitch as well."
