West Ham 1-0 Arsenal

Declan Rice scored his first ever goal for West Ham United as they beat Arsenal 1-0 at the London Stadium.

Rice's first goal for the Hammers has come two weeks after the 19-year-old pledged his future to West Ham, signing a new six-year deal at the London Stadium.

Arsenal started the game off better, and were on top for the majority of the first-half, with Alexandre Lacazette coming close on two occasions.

Matteo Guendouzi came really close for the Gunners with a shot from 30-yards out that just missed the target.

Samir Nasri, the former Arsenal midfielder, set up Rice minutes after the second-half begun, and the youngster fired the ball past Bernd Leno.

Alex Iwobi came close for Arsenal late on with a low-strike that just whistled past the far post.

Aaron Ramsey and Lucas Torreira came on with the Gunners trailing but even they couldn't spring the side into life at the London Stadium.

The Managers

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini: "I was pleased with the balance and consistence of the team. We did not allow Arsenal any chances despite their quality of players. We played with a mentality of a big team, always going for the second goal."

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery: "It's a bad result for us. It's concerning because we need to be competitive at home and away. At home, we fell good, but away, we are not getting the results we want.

"Today, we had to do more to impose our ideas. If we could have been more competitive with more quality, we could have done better."
