Jurgen Klopp gives positive update on injured trio

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided a positive update on the fitness of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Georginio Wijnaldum and Joe Gomez.

Alexander-Arnold sustained a knee injury in the warm-up to Liverpool's 1-0 win against Brighton earlier this month.

Klopp said the right-back is progressing well, but refused to make a definitive call of whether he'll be fit to face Leicester City on Wednesday.

"He is better, much better, but we have to see," Klopp said to Liverpool's official website.

"It needs to be stable - and in the moment, it is stable and it's about the pain. Everyone knows how desperate Trent is to play; he can ignore pretty much everything. That he played that game at Brighton was sensational, to be honest. It's unbelievable.

"It will not be long but is he ready for Leicester? I don't know, we'll find out. Then it's West Ham and then Bournemouth. After that he will be 100 per cent (back), but until then we have to see."

Wijnaldum also picked up an injury down on the South Coast, and as a result, missed the Reds' dramatic victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

"Gini is good, better," the German said on Wijnaldum. "The plan is that he will have one session today (Friday) and then we have to see how he reacts on that. Hopefully we can build from that point."

Klopp also spoke on Gomez, with the defender being out since his side's 3-1 win at Burnley in early December with a lower leg fracture.

"We will have to wait," Klopp insisted. "Obviously it was really unlucky in that situation.

"The injury is not like Trent or Gini where you know 'that's the only thing'. It could have been like that, but then more and more we found out it's a more serious thing.

"We will have to wait, for sure, a couple of weeks. We will see, it is difficult to judge at this moment.

"We thought three weeks ago he would be closer and then we had to make another diagnosis in which we saw that it didn't work out as far as we wanted, that's why he is still not training or running on the pitch."

The Reds host Leicester on Wednesday night, in the next step of their 2018/19 title challenge.
