Liverpool 1-1 Leicester

Harry Maguire denied Liverpool a chance to go seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but the Reds manage to move five points ahead of Manchester City.

Leicester City's Maguire scored right on the stroke of half-time at a snowy Anfield to equalise for the Foxes, who performed excellently.

Liverpool took the lead within two minutes of the game, after an excellent goal from Sadio Mane, but they were unable to find a winner.

The Reds are now five points clear of Man City, who lost to Newcastle on Tuesday night, whilst Leicester actually move down to 11th place.

Jurgen Klopp's side started the game in rapid fashion - and some early dominance saw them go a goal to the good.

Mane's brilliant first touch saw him skip away from the Leicester defenders, before the winger curled one into the bottom corner beyond Kasper Schmeichel.

It was nearly 2-0 to Liverpool immediately after, when Mohamed Salah found Roberto Firmino, who controlled the ball well, before his shot was denied superbly by the Danish goalkeeper.

The game was a sloppy one - not helped by the conditions on Merseyside, with the surface a lot slower than the players were used to.

Right on half-time, James Maddison's free-kick was somewhat dealt with by the home side's defence before Ben Chilwell's header found Maguire, who volleyed home in fine fashion.

Anfield was stunned. That was not to the script they had planned.

Naby Keita, who was starting the game in central midfield for the hosts, had a shout for a penalty when he was brought down, but referee Martin Atkinson waved away any appeals, much to Klopp's disgust.

Leicester had a spell in the second-half when they looked on top; and Firmino came close to scoring an own-goal after some tracking back - but Alisson saved well.

Klopp tried his best to get the Reds the win, bringing Daniel Sturridge, Fabinho and Adam Lallana onto the pitch - but it wasn't to be for the league leaders.

Not the end of the world for Liverpool; who have still gained a point on the champions, following their loss on Tuesday - but perhaps a chance wasted.

The Managers

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: "I don't see it like this, that we dropped points. We take what we get - tonight it's a point and that's more than we had before the game, so that's fine.

"Am I overly happy? No, of course not, we wanted to win the game, but we knew before it would be really difficult and then it started snowing and that made it no easier. The snow is actually not a problem, the only problem is if it stays on the pitch and that was actually the case."
