Oriol Romeu on "tough" Arsenal defeat

Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu believes his team didn't do enough to warrant any sort of point in their 2-0 loss at Arsenal.

Romeu's Saints team were beaten at Arsenal thanks to goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the Gunners.

Southampton were outclassed in the first-half, when Arsenal scored their two goals, but a spirited performance from Ralph Hasenhuttl's men in the second-half will give them some optimism for the remainder of the season.

Romeu was pleased with his side's attempted fightback in the second period, but he believes they didn't deserve anything at the Emirates.

"It was tough, especially in the first-half," the Saints midfielder told the club's official website.

"We were not getting near enough to their players, who were playing quick football between the lines with one or two touches.

"We were trying to react, but we were not close enough to them.

"In the second-half, we tried to go higher. We put four at the back and more players up front so we could get closer to them and make sure their midfielders were not playing balls between the lines.

"That helped us - we had more chances in their half and put more pressure on them. That reaction was good, but probably not enough."
