Manchester City’s record goal scorer Sergio Aguero has signed a one-year contract extension, which keeps him with the Premier League champions until 2021.
The Argentinian joins the list of top City stars like Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva, who have all recently signed new contracts with the club. Aguero had said in March he wanted to leave the club when his deal expired as he wanted to finish his career at his boyhood club Independiente.
Aguero said: “I am happy for this additional year. My idea was being here for 10 years. I've been here for seven years, it's going to be 10 when the contract expires.
“This was the main reason I signed. I'm very happy because they have treated me very well since the first day I got here. I'm very happy with everything that involves the club, my team-mates, the staff and the management team.
“We have a good team, we need to be focused and if we are at 100 per cent, we have lots of chances to do great things.”
Aguero produced some great performances at the start of the season, which have been praised by City manager Pep Guardiola.“Since I've been here, I've never seen him like this. The spirit since he came back from the holidays after the World Cup, he is in incredible condition,” the Spanish boss told Sky Sports.
City will look to forgot the midweek defeat to Lyon, as they travel to struggling Cardiff this weekend.
