Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld insists that he never wished to leave Spurs over the summer, despite speculation...
Alderweireld only has a year left on his existing deal with Tottenham, and the Belgian defender has an option for a further year.
Manchester United were the team heavily linked with Alderweireld, but the two sides failed to agree terms for the defender.
"Everyone was saying everywhere that I absolutely wanted to leave Tottennham," the defender said to Sky Sports.
"That's not true. This summer, I quickly understood Tottenham wanted to keep me. So, I had to battle to get my place back in the team. To be in the first team again is a victory for me.
"I just try to help Tottenham as best I can with my qualities. Regarding my future, everything that was said in the press was not right all the time."
Despite missing out on the first game against Newcastle United, Alderweireld has started the last three games at the back for Spurs.
