ANDERSON DOUBLE ENSURES HAMMERS COME OUT ON TOP

Felipe Anderson's double helped West Ham United record a 4-2 win over Burnley at the London Stadium in a six-goal thriller.

It was a pulsating encounter at the London Stadium, with one of West Ham's big-money summer signings having an integral role to play.

Marko Arnautovic's opener was cancelled out by Johann Gudmundsson's equaliser just before half-time.

Anderson put the Hammers in front in the second-half before Chris Wood levelled the game late on - but there was more late drama with Anderson notching again and Javier Hernandez completing the scoring.

Arnautovic took advantage of a rare James Tarkowski mistake, with the Austrian robbing the defender of possession before sliding the ball beyond Joe Hart in the 11th minute.

Anderson nearly doubled the Irons' advantage, when his goal-bound strike was heroically cleared from the goal-line by Ben Mee.

Ashley Westwood's excellent through ball found Gudmundsson to break the offside trap deployed by the hosts and he finished to level the game just before the break.

West Ham were dominating when the second-half started and made their pressure tell when Anderson's fine finish regained the Hammers' lead.

Robbie Brady whipped in a corner that was headed in by Wood to make it 2-2 not long after.

Anderson's deflected shot (off Mee) beat Hart to make it 3-2 at the London Stadium and Hernandez wrapped up the scoring after finishing emphatically late on.

THE MANAGERS:

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini described today's game as a "must-win" prior to the match, but believes his side could have scored more.

"We needed to win because we have had a lot of games where have created chances but not won. Yes, we could have scored more," the Chilean boss said.

"The first and most important thing is we won the game. We have been playing well and creating chances but we have either drawn or lost. We trust the way we play.

"I think the fans enjoyed this and in the moments of bad results I have always felt they were behind the team."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is pleased with his team's mentality, but is keen to talk with his side about the areas to work on.

"We reacted well to falling behind," Dyche claimed. "The mentality and energy were good in the first half. The third goal is a real blow and we are chasing the game when they score the last one.

"I'm not disappointed with the mentality of the team but we can't give away the ball so cheaply. There are some details in that game that need working on."
