"FANTASTIC" FOYTH EARNS WIN FOR TOTTENHAM AT SELHURST

ree

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino hailed match winner Juan Foyth as "fantastic" following his winning goal in a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace.

Foyth was the man to react quickest following Harry Kane's header that was only partially blocked.

It was the 20-year-old's second Premier League appearance for Spurs, with his first being a disaster, as he conceded two penalties against Wolves last weekend.

The win means Spurs have now won seven of their eight away Premier League matches this season - and the Eagles are still yet to win at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED -

Tottenham were dealt an early blow when Kieran Trippier was forced off with an injury in only the 24th minute.

Dele Alli had a decent chance for the visitors, heading wide from a Ben Davies cross; before Kane forced a save out of Wayne Hennessey from 25 yards out.

After the break, James Tomkins had Palace's best opportunity, but he couldn't guide his header on target at the far post.

Spurs eventually opened the scoring with just 25 minutes to go. Kane's header was blocked and was in the air, Jordan Ayew was ball-watching and Foyth leapt the highest and put the visitors ahead.

Palace unsurprisingly pressured Spurs in the dying moments of the game, with Hugo Lloris palming away a Jeffrey Schlupp effort.

Alexander Sorloth was then presented with a great chance in the Spurs box, but Lloris was equal to the striker's effort.

STAT OF THE MATCH -

Tottenham have now won 1-0 against Crystal Palace in the last five meetings between the sides. This is the longest run of identical scorelines between two sides in the history of the Premier League (Opta).

MANAGERS' REACTION -

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson believes his side have shown that the gap between them and the top teams "isn't that big".

"The gap between us and the top teams isn't that big - we've shown that in the last few games," Hodgson said.

"The players aren't allowing themselves to become disheartened. The attitude throughout was excellent today. In the last 20 or 30 minutes we were laying siege to the Tottenham goal. They will realise that it was quite a fortunate win.

"We go home very dejected because once again we have very little to show for our efforts."

Tottenham boss Pochettino has praised his defender Foyth as "fantastic" following his positive reaction from last weekend's disappointing performance.

"He's an intelligent, smart player and he has the potential to be one of the best centre-backs in Europe," Pochettinho claimed.

"Of course he was very disappointed last week, he felt responsible but that's the job of the coaching staff to work with a player and we laughed about the situation. His performance today was fantastic."
