FIRMINO DOUBTFUL FOR PSG CLASH

Following a strong performance in Saturdays 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool could face Neymar & co without their talismanic number nine, Roberto Firmino...

After an incident with Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen, Firmino was left with an abrasion of the left eye.

On medical review, no other serious issues were found and a place in the starting XI against PSG seemed reasonable. This was reiterated by Jurgen Klopp who stated “If we played today, no chance. But the CL is tomorrow. That is good news. We will see how it develops“.

However, after Jurgen Klopp’s press conference, Firmino was absent from Liverpool’s pre-Champions League training suggesting a start in tomorrow night‘s clash is looking less likely than previously thought.

This could leave Klopp with a decision to make on the lineup against the French champions.

The obvious change would of course be Sturridge in at striker, leaving the rest of the team unchanged.

However, a system that was tested in pre-season was a front three inclusive of summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri.

Whether that be Shaqiri right-side and Salah as the number nine or Shaqiri deployed as an unorthodox striker.

Both Sturridge and Shaqiri are viable options for tomorrow nights matchup. But nevertheless, Liverpool will clearly be weaker if they are without their first choice number nine.
