Heskey believes Liverpool have upper-hand in title race

Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes the Reds have the upper-hand in this season's title race over Manchester City.

Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League with a dramatic late win at Fulham on Sunday.

But Manchester City do have a game in hand, with the Citizens not playing in the league at the weekend due to FA Cup commitments.

The two have been neck-and-neck throughout this season - with the Reds having seven remaining matches, and the champions having eight games left of the campaign.

"A lot of teams are expecting Liverpool to go and score five or six goals, but Fulham are fighting for their lives as well.
"I'm guessing they're already gone, but it's about pride; to play against Liverpool and to get a result would be good, especially for Scott Parker.
"Within football, you have games where you're not going to be playing the best, but it's about winning ugly. This was one of those games."

Heskey believes his former team hold the advantage, even though City have a game in hand over their rivals.

The now-retired striker, talking to Sky Sports News, he believes Liverpool have the advantage psychologically over the defending champions.

"Psychologically, it's very important (Liverpool's lead). As you saw before, they were always having to chase Man City, they were always trying to stay ahead. Now they've got the upper-hand.
"It's better to have the points in hand rather than having to go out there and fight for it.
"Manchester City have got to go into the next game knowing that they need to win that game, putting the pressure back on them and seeing how they fare under the pressure."
