HUGHTON SALUTES TEAM'S CHARACTER IN DRAMATIC DRAW

Brighton manager Chris Hughton saluted the character of his players after they rescued a dramatic draw at Southampton.

Hughton said: "I can say what I need to say, and shout as much as I want, but you've got to have a group of players who realise it themselves.

“There wasn't a player coming in at half-time who didn't realise the team had underperformed. You can't get away with it in this division.

"The overriding feeling is one of a team desperate to get back into this game, and great character.” The Albion boss was relieved with gaining a point from a losing position but admitted he did not want to be doing that too often this season.

Goal scorer Glenn Murray, who equalised from the spot in the last minute, said after the game he felt Albion "got away" with a point at Southampton.

Murray added: "We were very poor and were under par. The second half was a different game. We put them under pressure and got our reward at the end".

After the inconsistent performance, goalkeeper Matt Ryan urged Albion to "up their game" for the whole 90 minutes for their tough upcoming Premier League games.

The Australian also said: "We haven't been clinical in certain moments of the game both defensively and offensively.”

Brighton host Tottenham this weekend and the travel to champions Manchester City the following Saturday.
