Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has heaped the praise on his captain Jordan Henderson for taking on the role of skipper following the exit of Steven Gerrard in 2015.
Gerrard spent 17 years at his boyhood club until departing to LA Galaxy in 2015, leaving the responsibility of captain to Henderson.
The former Liverpool manager, and now Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, handed the responsibility over to Henderson, and Klopp kept the faith with the England midfielder following his arrival.
Henderson has seemingly fell down the pecking order at Anfield this season, following the arrival of Fabinho from Monaco in the summer.
But a cameo performance from the skipper in the Reds' 3-1 comeback victory at Southampton, with Henderson scoring and assisting, has triggered Klopp to praise his captain.
"I'm very positive," Klopp said. "The most difficult job in the last 500 years of football was to replace Steven Gerrard. In the mind of the people it was like, 'if it's not Stevie, then it's not good enough'.
"And he has dealt with that outstandingly well so he can be really proud. Now we have to think of the future and he is a very important part of our team."
