LATE LACAZETTE STRIKE DENIES LIVERPOOL IMPORTANT WIN

Alexandre Lacazette's late equaliser denied Liverpool maximum points as they drew 1-1 with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Lacazette finished smartly after a mistake from Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson to cancel out James Milner's opener.

Liverpool have still moved to the top of the Premier League with the point, but Manchester City have the chance to leapfrog the Reds tomorrow.

The officials were at the centre of attention early on when Roberto Firmino's lobbed attempt beat Bernd Leno and hit the post, with Sadio Mane scoring from the rebound.

However, the linesman flagged for offside with replays showing that Mane was only offside initially, but the game had entered a new phase, where the Senegal forward was onside.

The first-half was played at a sensational speed, with both sides' attacking threat looking dangerous.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan went so close for the Gunners, when an on-rushing Alisson was beaten by the Armenian's header, but it also beat the post.

Leno saved well from Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk; who had two quick back-to-back chances.

Van Dijk then hit the post with a header that trickled past the German goalkeeper.

Liverpool did take the lead, though, just past the hour-mark, with Mane's cross not dealt with by Leno and the ball fell to Milner who composed himself well before finishing.

Van Dijk had his third chance of the match, when his powerful header was straight at Leno.

Arsenal did equalise with eight minutes of normal time remaining, with Alisson coming out of his goal, but Lacazette beat him to the ball and finished extremely well from a tight angle.

STATS:

- Liverpool are now unbeaten in their opening 11 Premier League matches for the first time since the 2007/08 season.

- Arsenal have won more points (eight) from losing positions than any other Premier League team this season.

- Arsenal are now winless in their last seven Premier League games against Liverpool (D3, L4).

Arsenal manager Unai Emery insisted that he is "only 50% happy" with the result, revealing he wanted the three points in North London.

"We wanted to win but the performance is good, we push and we work the match, doing our tactics and with our supporters pushing us with energy," Emery said.

"For the supporters it is a great match and a good spectacle but I am only 50% happy because we wanted to win.

"Today the balance was good in our speed and intensity. We worked very well for the 90 minutes and the two goals is the difference in the match. This is a point and a draw, maybe we deserve a little more."

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is more satisfied with the point at the Emirates, saying it "is a good result".

"A point is a good result - Unai Emery can say the same, but we had clear chances," Klopp said. "When Arsenal chase the game they throw everyone on the pitch which is really cool and we were not as compact as I wanted.

"Our workhorses in midfield, we put too much on their shoulders. And it was one time we didn't close Alex Iwobi and he plays the pass for the goal."
