An Alisson error wasn't enough for the hosts to overturn a disappointing Liverpool side as the Reds emerged with a tough 2-1 win away.
Both Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah missed back-to-back chances to open the score sheet nice and early but they both uncharacteristically blundered their chances. Sadio Mané didn't take too long to put the Reds in front after he got a toe on a well-worked cross from Andy Robertson.
Liverpool controlled possession early on but Leicester had a couple of chances to equalise. Alisson was forced to make a good save from a shot by Gray. As the half went on Liverpool appeared to progressively get worse and worse, the front three and the midfield frequently overplaying and losing possession. Firmino gave them some breathing room after scoring a header just before half time to take them 2-0 up.
The second half began and things didn't look much better. In my honest opinion, Liverpool were lucky to be 2-0 up in the first place. Alisson was called upon more this game than he has done so far this season, but he appeared composed and his saves were solid, that was up until his huge mistake.
It was put upon him by a back pass from LFC captain Jordan Henderson to Virgil van Dijk, who was then caught out and forced to play back to the keeper. Instead of booting it clear, Alisson tried too much and gave the ball away, allowing Ghezzal to grab a goal back for the Foxes.
Naturally, Jurgen Klopp was fuming and the team didn't play well enough to truly settle his nerves. The front three continued to overplay, Mané being the only one of the three who I think can be considered to have a good performance. Salah was a disappointment, he still caused problems with his pace but he just couldn't do much else on the day.
The rest of the team didn't do much to quell the nerves either, but thankfully Leicester didn't do much to press Liverpool for an equaliser. James Maddison and Demarai Gray impressed me today, they looked good on the ball and were some of the few plays on the pitch that gave a lasting impression.
Liverpool's centreback partnership of Van Dijk and Joe Gomez looks like it'll be great this season, even if the youngster was the one who had the superior game today.
Ultimately, Leicester didn't have another goal in them, which is fortunate for Klopp's Liverpool team who played frustratingly bad for the large majority of the game. As a Liverpool fan myself it was hard to watch them make so many mistakes and for the play to not flow as it normally does. In fact the best moment of the game for me came when Ben Chilwell took an unfortunate ball to his privates, who, until that point, put in a half-decent performance.
Man of the Match for me was Joe Gomez. The goal Liverpool conceded wasn't his fault, but he made some fantastic tackles and blocks that would make Virgil van Dijk proud. If he can continue building on these first few good performances, he could make a claim for being one of the best young centre halves in the league.
