MENDY BANNED FROM DRIVING FOR A YEAR

Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy has been banned from driving for a year after receiving 24 points on his licence...

The Police reported Mendy to the courts after he didn't say who drove his Mercedes car when it was caught speeding four times in under two weeks.

Mendy denied driving the car but was then convicted of four charges of failing to provide information.

The French defender was also ordered to pay £2,500 and another £185 in costs. is licence received six points for each offence - accumulating to 24 in total.

Manchester Magistrates' Court was told that Mendy received post offering him to tell the Police who was behind the wheel; but he did not reply.

"We are dealing with four offences here, two on the same day, and it's a serious matter. They have been completely ignored and I think it is discourteous that he is not here so we can talk to him about it," Magistrate chair Michael Blackhurst said.

Gwyn Lewis, Mendy's lawyer, was asked to accept the ban on the City player's behalf: "I deem him present by my presence."

"It's unfortunate that he wasn't the driver, but that is not the issue, it's that he has not corresponded.

"He is aware that he is being disqualified and is not driving currently. It's the first time he has been at court in this country and he is not originally from here. This is his first disqualification and it has been explained to him how serious this is."
