NEWCASTLE 1-2 ARSENAL: REPORT

The pressure mounts of Rafa Benitez, as Arsenal make it three wins on the bounce as a strong second-half performance is too much for struggling Newcastle...

The first-half was one of few chances, but the hosts looked the better side altogether and the visitors were struggling to get to grips with the game.

The Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang partnership that worked so well against Cardiff before the international break, wasn't working as well in the opening 45 minutes.

After the second-half, though, the Gunners came out significantly better and were in front when Granit Xhaka's 25-yard free-kick was too much for Martin Dubravka.

A brilliant free-kick from the Swiss international, who has come in for plenty of stick recently.

Mesut Ozil put Arsenal in complete control when he side footed beyond Dubravka following Lacazette's blocked attempt.

Ozil scored his first league goal since way back in December 2017, when he scored in Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

The German's goal meant all of Arsenal's 10 goals this season have been scored by different players (Opta Stats).

Newcastle fans were clearly losing their patience with Benitez, when with about 10 minutes to go, he replaced Matt Ritchie, who looked their biggest threat, for Yoshinori Muto and jeers were heard around the ground.

Cieran Clark headed in from a Federico Fernandez cross to give the Magpies some consolation, but that's all it was and the Gunners held on.

Arsenal move up to 7th place in the table, as Newcastle continue to struggle down in 18th place.
