NEWCASTLE SLUMP TO BOTTOM AS SEAGULLS EDGE IT ON TYNESIDE

The hosts had the first good chance of the match, when Ayoze Perez's shot from inside the box was saved well by the feet of Mat Ryan.

Not long after, Glenn Murray clashed heads with Federico Fernandez and was down for a lengthy period of time and was subsequently taken off for Brighton.

Things didn't start too well for winless Newcastle, as Jose Izquierdo's deflected shot beat Martin Dubravka in the Toon goal!

The fans were well and truly on the team's back, a goal down, at home, to Brighton. The winless run looked set to continue...

Jonjo Shelvey's shot was palmed away by Ryan before it reached Yamomoto Muto who couldn't find the back of the net.

Another Shelvey chance late on in the game. The English midfielder had a free-kick deflected which benefitted Ryan in the Seagulls goal, who saved well.

Brighton then had a chance to kill off the game completely, Bissouma skipped away from challenges on the counter-attack but fired just wide of the Toon post.

The Seagulls held on for an important win, with the hosts dropping to the bottom of the Premier League table as the pressure mounts on Rafa Benitez.
