PREVIEW: Southampton vs Liverpool

Liverpool have the chance to once again take Manchester City's spot at the top of the Premier League as they travel down to Southampton on Friday evening.

The Reds won dramatically last weekend against Tottenham to take the top of the league status, but City's win over Cardiff City on Wednesday night ensured the reigning champions would once again be top.

Southampton look as if they are safe for another year in the Premier League, with Ralph Hasenhuttl making a huge impact since his arrival at St. Mary's.

These sides met each other earlier in the season at Anfield, and the Reds cruised to a 3-0 victory, with goals from Mohamed Salah, Joel Matip and an own goal from Wesley Hoedt.

However, Liverpool have no fresh injury problems, with Virgil van Dijk okay to face his former side, despite picking up a knock last weekend.

Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have both returned to full-training, but the trip down south may come too soon for the duo.

THE MANAGERS

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is sure his team aren't safe from relegation just yet despite their recent form.

Hasenhuttl's side are on 33 points and five points above 18th-place Cardiff City, but the Austrian is determined to get his side to the 40-point mark.

"We know how tough it is and there are still a lot of points to get, so we have to stay focused," Hasenhuttl said.

"There is still a long way to go and the sooner we get to the 40 points mark, the better."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was very complimentary of the job his opposite number has done since his time at St. Mary's.

Klopp described the Saints' manager's job at the struggling side as "incredible" and praised his ability to bring up youth players to the senior team.

"I have to say, the job he is doing since he's been there is incredible. He's brought the young players in, academy players.

"It's good, of course, but in the situation when he came in, it's pretty brave as well. It's a good side, it's a really good side. We know about that."
