Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey intends to stay at the Gunners despite collapse in his contract talks.

Ramsey is out of contract in the summer and there have been numerous rumours about the Welshman's departure, following the two parties failing to agree a new contract.

The Wales international has now revealed that he had expected to stay at Arsenal after his camp believed a new deal had been agreed with the North London club.

However, those talks have been temporarily postponed and the midfielder is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2019, unless a deal is struck with another side in January.

"I am contracted to Arsenal and I am going to do my best now this season to try and achieve something special," Ramsey told Sky Sports.

"Everything has been going great with the club. We thought we were in a position where we had agreed a deal but that's no longer the case.

"So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal this season, and I'll leave the rest with the club now."

Ramsey has made 338 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Cardiff City for £5m in 2008, and has found the net 59 times.

The Arsenal midfielder was asked whether he is disappointed that there is no contract offer yet, and answered: "That's a decision they (Arsenal) have made and things happen in football.

"You just have to get on with it and carry on playing the best I can. That's all I am concentrating on and giving my best for Arsenal."

Ramsey scored an unbelievable back-heel goal in the Gunners' last game in the Premier League, in their 5-1 win at Fulham.
