Harry Kane became Tottenham's joint fifth all time top goalscorer as his first-half penalty helped beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 at the Amex...
For Spurs, midfielder Dele Alli was only fit enough for the bench following his injury that has kept him sidelined for the previous two games.
Paulo Gazzaniga came in for the injured Michel Vorm, with Hugo Lloris still out injured.
Spurs came close in the opening ten minutes when a corner was met by the head of Toby Alderweireld, but quick reactions from Matt Ryan kept the Belgian out.
The visitors were having most of the play in the early stages, with the wet conditions playing into their advantages, with the slick passing play that followed.
There was a blow for Brighton just under 20 minutes in, when Dale Stephens was forced off with a hamstring injury and replaced by Beram Kayal.
On 40 minutes, a free-kick was hit by Kieran Trippier into the Brighton wall and Glenn Murray was deemed to use a hand and it was a penalty to Spurs.
Kane made no mistake from the spot and became Spurs' 5th all time top goalscorer - equalling Jermaine Defoe's record of 140 goals.
Kane's opener was enough for Spurs to go into the second-half with a goal advantage. They were the better side, but didn't cause Ryan too many problems in the home team's goal.
Christian Eriksen's outside of the box effort was marginally close to doubling Tottenham's advantage, with Ryan beaten.
Solly March's long range effort was deflected and left Gazzaniga scrambling in the Spurs goal, but was just over.
Shane Duffy thought he had equalised for Brighton, but the defender's goal was disallowed for an offside, but the hosts were now on top.
Anthony Knockaert had a golden opportunity after some brilliant footwork that left Alderweireld on the floor, but could only find Gazzaniga's gloves.
Danny Rose's pull back was met by Erik Lamela, who had just come on as a substitute, who scored his second goal in as many Premier League games and ensured maximum points for the away side.
Knockaert managed to get a goal back for the Seagulls, with a well taken finish, but it proved to only be a consolation for the hosts.
Spurs weren't at their scintillating best, but after their recent results a 2-1 is a good building stone for Mauricio Pochettino's men in order to regain some sort of confidence.
