STERLING SET FOR CONTRACT TALKS

Raheem Sterling is set to undergo new contract talks with Premier League champions Manchester City, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports states reports of a deadlock in talks between Sterling and the club are inaccurate, with an agreement likely to be secured within the next fortnight. City’s director of football Txiki Bergistain is hoping to hold talks with Sterling’s representatives before the end of September.

Sterling is out of contract in June 2020 after signing for City from Liverpool in 2015. The 23-year-old has since made 144 appearances for the club, scoring 47 goals, and was an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad who made it to the World Cup semi-final.

On Friday, City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters: "It's well known we're delighted with him and would like him to continue. My club knows my opinion and we share that. After that it is the club and the agent."

Sterling will be looking to continue his good start to the season when City face Lyon in their first Champions League fixture on Wednesday, followed by a visit to Cardiff at the weekend.
