TOTTENHAM 3-1 CHELSEA: REPORT

Tottenham Hotspur have ended Chelsea's unbeaten record in the Premier League with a 3-1 win over the Blues at Wembley.

Goals from Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min meant that Olivier Giroud's late reply was only a consolation.

Tottenham have now leapfrogged Chelsea into third in the Premier League - three points behind Liverpool, and five behind Manchester City.

HOW IT HAPPENED -

It only took Spurs 15 minutes to take the lead in this one. Christian Eriksen's excellent free-kick was headed in by Alli to give Tottenham the perfect start.

Kane was soon on hand to double their lead when his low drive from outside the box proved too much for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The England striker carried on his goalscoring form from the UEFA Nations League to score his 25th goal in a Premier League London Derby.

The goal of the game came after the break when Son's superb individual run and finish ended any slight Chelsea hopes.

The game was completely out of Chelsea's sight and it was looking like a first loss in the Premier League for Maurizio Sarri.

However, the Blues did reply with just five minutes of normal time remaining. Giroud was the man on the end of a Cesar Azpilicueta cross to reduce the deficit.

A breathless first-half showing from the hosts proved to be too much for Chelsea - who have slipped down to fourth in the standings.

THE MANAGERS -

Mauricio Pochettino: “There’s no need for me to talk too much. I am so happy, so pleased. I don’t need to analyse too much. All credit to the players because they were fantastic.

“The staff are so happy managing this group of players. We need to be humble and recognise playing like this we can do big things.

“Our challenge is to keep going and be consistent. That’s our challenge for the rest of the season.”

Maurizio Sarri: “It’s clear, I knew very well we had a lot of problems to solve and today was clear for everybody.

“I hope first of all [it is clear] for the players because I told them in the last week that we had a big problem with our approach to the match and today was the same approach.

“The level of build-up was different and after 15 minutes we were losing 2-0. This was the first problem but today I saw a lot of problems because we played very badly from a physical point, of view, mentally, technically, tactically, particularly in the first 20 minutes. We have to do a lot of work. A lot of problems to solve.

“We have to work in training.  It’s not very easy and unfortunately we have no time, we have to play every three days so it’s very difficult to have training just to improve the team.

"But we have to try to do something because the defensive phase today was a disaster. But I am not talking about the defensive line, the offensive players pressed very badly, the midfielders defended not very well, and the defensive line as a consequence was a disaster.”
