TEAM NEWS

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier is set to return after a groin injury which kept him out of Sunday's loss to Arsenal.

Jan Vertonghen is suspended for Spurs, after a red card against the Gunners, but Toby Alderweireld is set to replace his fellow Belgian team-mate.

Kelvin Davis will take temporary charge of Southampton, following the sacking of manager Mark Hughes earlier this week.

Michael Obafemi is a doubt after being forced off against Manchester United with a muscle problem - with Mario Lemina suspended.

Ryan Bertrand, Danny Ings and Matt Targett are all injured and will all be assessed ahead of the trip to Spurs.

THE MANAGERS

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been talking about facing his former side, saying "he cares a lot" for Southampton.

"I care a lot for Southampton... I have spoken with my family and I think it was one of the better periods of my life.
"We found some amazing people there, an amazing town and they provided us with everything to make us feel at home.
"They have the tools to lift (themselves) from (their) situation but tomorrow we compete and we need to win the three points."

Southampton temporary manager Kelvin Davis doesn't think the events of this week will disrupt their performance against Spurs on Wednesday.

"My role is to take the team on Wednesday. I don't see the point in trying to get too much into their heads.
"They are professional boys, and I like to think with their abilities there's nothing stopping them putting in a positive performance and hopefully a display that puts us in a position to come away with something."
