UNITED MAKE "MAMMOTH BID" FOR LUCAS HERNANDEZ

Manchester United have reportedly made a "mammoth offer" for Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez.

Hernandez is a defender, who can play at left-back or more centrally - and Marca say that the Frenchman is Jose Mourinho's ideal candidate for the role.

Mourinho tried, and failed, to sign a defender for the start of this season and United's worst start to a season in 29 years has raised questions over their defence.

United have already conceded 14 goals in the Premier League so far this season and a big-name defender is a necessity.

Hernandez has a £70m release clause in his Atletico deal and United are "more than willing" to meet that and double the defender's wages.
