Van Dijk has expressed his excitement at the possibility of what Liverpool can achieve this season, and his aim is to win every competition the team possibly can.

Liverpool have started off the season perfectly with five wins out of five in the Premier League and won in dramatic fashion in their only Champions League game on Tuesday night.

"Everyone is excited, everyone is feeling good, everyone wanted to be part of this," van Dijk told The Evening Standard.

"We know the season is very long, we have four competitions to play in (but) we want to win everything: that is basically our mindset, otherwise, you'd better stop.

"You need to have ambitions, and with the size of this club, with the people around here and the history of the club, we want to try and win everything."

The Netherlands captain joined for a £75m fee from Southampton in January this year but is yet to win a trophy with the Reds, getting to one Champions League final in the process.
